DEAN’S MESSAGE
Dear our beloved students,
For as long as human civilization has been on this earth, that is how long the built environment has existed.
Our role is an extension of this never-ending endeavour of shaping the world responsibly. Since its inception in September 2018, the Faculty of Built Environment (FBE) UNIMAS has been steadfastly committed to the principles of sustainable built environment. After all, FBE UNIMAS serves as a nexus where talent intersects with ideas, where art converges with science, and where the natural world harmonizes with human creation. We prioritize maintaining balanced relationships between these, emphasizing responsible stewardship of the earth’s bountiful, yet scarce resources.
At the same time, we aspire to be at the forefront of built environment education, approaching our teaching methods with a distinctive mindset: embracing the uniquely local Sarawakian wisdom and values, while striving for global recognition and innovative, forward-looking ideas. FBE UNIMAS has consistently pursued this commitment to excellence while remaining aligned with UNIMAS's overarching vision and mission, looking at achievements not as an individual goal but as an aspiration of many – students, stakeholders, industry and community.
We do this by achieving excellence in architecture, quantity surveying, and construction education. Our undergraduate programmes, such as the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Architecture and Bachelor of Quantity Surveying (Hons), are highly esteemed, boasting full accreditation from LAM and BQSM respectively. Additionally, we have broadened our offerings to include top-notch postgraduate programmes, encompassing coursework programmes like the Master of Science in Construction Design Management and Master of Architecture, as well as research-focused programmes such as the Masters in Built Environment and Doctor of Philosophy. We are also in the process of developing new programmes to further expand our educational offerings.
In less than a decade, our journey has been one of continuous growth and exploration. While it is valuable to reflect on our past accomplishments, it is equally important to look ahead to the future. As a faculty that is driven by innovation, we are always seeking new ideas and opportunities for advancement. We are committed to fostering an environment where our students not only excel academically but also grow personally, aspiring to BE more than they ever imagined possible.
Welcome to FBE, a place where you can BE.
