Dean's Message
For as long as human civilization has been on this earth, that is how long the built environment has existed.
At the Faculty of Built Environment (FBE), UNIMAS, we view this enduring responsibility through the lens of “Building People”, our commitment to nurturing individuals who will, in turn, build better places, stronger communities, thriving civilizations, and a more sustainable future. For us, the built environment is not merely about constructing buildings; it is about cultivating human potential, empowering communities, and shaping societies that are resilient, inclusive, and meaningful.
Since its establishment in September 2018, FBE UNIMAS has remained steadfast in its dedication to sustainable built environment education and practice. As a dynamic nexus where talent meets ideas, where art and science converge, and where nature harmonizes with human ingenuity, the Faculty champions the responsible stewardship of our planet’s precious resources. We believe that sustainable development begins with thoughtful education and ethical leadership.
Our aspiration is to be at the forefront of built environment education, distinguished by an approach that embraces the rich wisdom, culture, and values of Sarawak while engaging confidently with global perspectives and future-oriented innovations. Guided by the vision and mission of UNIMAS, we pursue excellence not as an individual achievement, but as a shared endeavour among academia, industry, government, and the community. Together, we create knowledge, inspire innovation, and generate impact that extends beyond the classroom.
This commitment is embodied in our programmes in architecture, quantity surveying, construction, and the wider built environment disciplines. Our undergraduate offerings, including the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Architecture and Bachelor in Quantity Surveying with Honours, have earned full professional accreditation from LAM and BQSM respectively. Complementing these are our high-quality postgraduate programmes, including the Master of Architecture, Master of Science in Construction Design Management, Master of Science in Built Environment, and Doctor of Philosophy programmes that support advanced professional practice and impactful research.
In less than a decade, our journey has been one of continuous growth and exploration. While it is valuable to reflect on our past accomplishments, it is equally important to look ahead to the future. As a faculty that is driven by innovation, we are always seeking new ideas and opportunities for advancement. We are committed to fostering an environment where our students not only excel academically but also grow personally, aspiring to BE more than they ever imagined possible.
Welcome to FBE.
