Facelifting of Perauk Tambang for Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHe): Riverfront Heritage Component
The perahu tambang is an icon to Kuching, Sarawak. A legacy of an era that still exists until today. The designers from FBE were asked to conduct a face-lifting exercise on 12 perahu tambang in Sarawak River. After many proposals, it was decided that the design should be maintained but only to lift the image of the perahu through cosmetic changes on the kajang (roof) using local patterns of different ethnic groups in Sarawak. The perahu were retrofitted with solar panel technology for adding their commercial appeal.

MoU & MoA
Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much. Within the spirit of togetherness in embracing UNIMAS Core Values, FBE is keen in fostering strategic partnerships with esteemed stakeholders across various disciplines and domains for collaborations. Where there are areas deemed to be beneficial for both parties, and especially for the communities at large, MoUs or MoAs are reached to formalize the cooperations.
Volunteerism & Engagements
The bustling campus life may distract one from the real-world issues and problems. In making sure one would not neglect the needs and hopes from the communities, FBE would try to its best to carry its responsibility to where it is rightfully needed. Learning, after all, transcends beyond classrooms.
Rainwater Harvesting System Design, Installation & Knowledge Transfer at Kg. Sungai Putin under Service Learning Malaysia (SULAM)
The problem faced by the residents of Kg Sungai Putin is clean water supply. Most residents already have water tanks but the method of filtration and rainwater catchment is not safe to practice. The students of the Faculty of Built Environment have designed, procured, planned and built a rainwater catchment and filtration system in two separate locations in the village, using existing tanks. The methods were then taught to the villagers for knowledge sustainability.
